Why Don't Production Cars Look Like Concept Cars?

I know it has something to do with expenses and something to do with aerodynamics or safety issues, but I'd like to know more specifically.

Suggestion:

Concept cars are just that, concepts. A lot of times they have crazy body work that would be too expensive for production, they may showcase technologies that are not ready for production or are too expensive, and may just not be all that practical.

Some do, most don't. Cars are designed by designers, built by engineers. Many designers sort of ignore mechanics and the cost of manufacturing processes; they have a "skies the limit" attitude. So everyone love the design, then the engineers get involved. Engineers don't care about design, they care about functionality. So some of the aspects of a concept car will be carried over if they can be done economically and are appropriately functional.

First three are correct but add that cars have to appeal to a broad spectrum of consumers. What you or I may find appealing, some one else may not like it or buy it.

Concept cars is just a chance for the engineers to be creative on a car and see how the public reacts to it. If the reaction is good and production is feasible, then the concept goes in to production.
