Look at sms by your mobile phone or what people in america call text messaging. This trend was popular in Japan in the late 1990s but this did not pick up in the United States and Europe till the early to mid 2000's.
Who produces the most reliable cars? Japan. Toyota, Lexus, Honda, and Acura. Yes, BMW and Mercedes are decent rivals but these days, Lexus and Acura have the edge over them and this is especially prevalent just here in California. American cars used to be the best but today, they just suck big time.
Who produces some of the best tv's in the world? Sony, Panasonic, Toshiba, etc. several Japanese companies to make things short
Who manufactures the leading video game systems and computers? same answer. Sony, Nintendo(video games), Toshiba, and Sega(when it was popular back in the day)
Who produces some of the best cameras in the world? Again Sony, Toshiba, Nikon, Canon, etc.
As a matter of fact, Japan is the largest consumer electronics manufacturer in the world.
Suggestion:
We would never make an electronics industry like Japan for the same reason Canada, Germany, Britain, France and ect aren't. Since the mid 50's, countries have begun specializing in certain markets to make their products more competitive, for example the US leads in drug development and engineering for planes.
