anything honda or toyota. make sure it has been well taken care of, or owned by an old couple. I say look for honda civics and toyota corollas. you shouldn't have too much of a problem finding some in those price ranges. good luck!

Toyota's and Mazda's are very reliable cars. We've had both, and NEVER had a problem with either.
It should be 4-door, 4-cyls, not sporty. I would prefer Honda or Toyota… First time drivers usually have much more expensive car insurance, and it depends from car. You should compare insurance rates while choosing the car – for example here – carquotes.sinfree.net
