What is a Good Battery for the Losi Desert Truck?

I am hopefully getting this as my first rc car and would like to know what size and brand battery i need to make it go 30+mph. it will hae the stock losi 32k motor so it isn't great but its what i have. I do not really want a lipo because they are more expensive and seem too complicated.
Also my second choice for a ar is the traxxas bandit XL5 so if anyonee thinks one is supeior put that in too. I am mainly going to be driving on parking lots, streets, a dirtbike track and football fields.

I hate to break it to you but your best bet is to go with a 2s or 3s lipo. If price is a major concern check out one of the wholesale rc websites google advertises, kinghobbies.com has some very low prices on zippy and trunigy lipos that often cost less that most nimh batteries. As for chargers dynamite and duratrax both make excellent lipo chargers for relatively cheap. About $100 will get a decent, easy-to-use lipo charger, most of them even balance lipos while they charge. A good rule of thumb when charging lipos is to take the capacity in mah and devide it by 1000 to get your charging rate in amps. Good luck!
