Problem: New alternator, new battery – Last battery caused the alternator to go bad due to a dead cell.
My alternator is hooked up right. I took it off earlier today to see if the alternator was good (took it to autozone) and it was good. Battery is brand new. The alternator won't charge the battery it seems. The car starts with a jump and continue to run even after the jumper cables are disconnected. The battery just keeps dying as if the alternator is not charging it.
What could my problem be? Bad wires? – I also jumped it a few days ago and let the car sit idle for a moment to see if the alternator would charge the battery and it didn't.
Suggestion:
Does it drain over night or is it immediate when you turn the engine off? Did you check to make sure the cable connections are clean and tight?
Another possibility is the positive cable is bad. It can be hard to detect under the insulation.
