This (2009) is the ninth consecutive year that silver has been at the top when it comes to car color choice. But the silver that is sprayed onto cars these days is much more advanced than the paint used when it began to become popular. Around 37% of the small car in Europe, where the market for this size is very strong, tend to be more varied in their colors using reds, green, brown and blue.
Car makers have also turned their attention to making their car interiors more attractive by using varied accent colors. New paints are being introduced that include glass particles that make the paint shimmer and shine.
Its well known that different colors can have a psychological influence. Red, for example, has been said to stimulate the body and mind whereas blue is believed to have a calming, soothinig effect. There is some debate among psychologists regarding the effects of color therapy.
Fifteem years ago only 1% of new cars were silver in color with the most popular color choice at that time being green. Color fashions clearly change over time making it near impossible to predict the next hot color.
