Scissor Lifts Raise the Bar!

Scissor lifts (or man lifts) are extremely useful tools that are used in a wide variety of situations where people need to work at height. Unlike boom lifts, scissor lifts are used mainly in situations where there is restricted access.

There are two specific situations concerning narrow, or restricted access where a scissor lift is the ideal solution. If you need to raise a platform for men to work from in some kind of shaft situation where it would be impossible to get a boom lift in, then of course the scissor lifts is the ideal solution. But also, there are many scenarios where a scissor lift needs to be taken inside a building that only has a small doorway for the lift to enter through.

Even the tallest scissor lifts will compact down enough to pass through a standard single doorway. They also have other clever features such as non-marking tires fitted as standard-a useful addition for where the lift must travel through a non industrial section of a building in order to get to the industrial area.

Some electrically powered scissor lifts are fitted with low sound emission electric motors. This enables the lift to be used in areas which may have people are working in a sound sensitive environment for example – a school or an office. Another great innovation is the addition of wheels with a zero turning radius. This enables the operator to make small adjustments, even when they are in the air. It also improves the general manoeuvrability of the lift in very tight spaces.

There are many attachments that you can buy to fit to your scissor lift. For example, you can attach platform work lights to the upper platform. Some platforms have folding guard rails which will fold completely flat so that when the lift is retracted it has an even lower height to enable it to pass through lower doorways. Sometimes you need to use any scissor lift on unlevel ground. This is where self-levelling outriggers come in handy. These are the legs which pushed down on the ground to stabilise the base of the lift. With a self-levelling outriggers, the base will effectively find its own level.

Many new scissor lifts now come with on-board diagnostics. What this means is that if something goes wrong with the scissor lift while it is in use, the operator can diagnose and hopefully solve the problem without lowering or leaving the platform.

Scissor lifts are a valuable tool for many businesses and one of the best solutions when having to carry out work at height. Raise your game with a scissor lift.
