If it is snowing or if there is inclement weather outside, not being able to find a parking space that is located somewhat conveniently within walking distance of your apartment or even your residence can be frustrating. You start to wonder who is responsible for having the family of five cars or who is the culprit that keeps inviting their friends over and telling them to park in parking spaces that are really reserved for the residents. This is an ongoing problem that my apartment complex is not only facing- but which many other apartment complexes are facing as they try to figure out a way to resolve the parking issues that have popped up.
As a result of the recent parking debacle, my apartment complex recently issued notices that they posted on every doorway of the residents who live here. The notices notified/warned residents about parking illegally as well as about being conscientious of those who live here and should have priority when inviting guests over. After this warning went out and had marginal success, the apartment complex then issued notices saying that they were coming up with a plan to issue parking stickers for residents who lived here (which still hasn’t happened). The plan is supposed to go into effect sometime between now and a few months from now. However, I think that the most ideal solution would be to issue “reserved spaces” in which the apartment number for each resident is printed in the parking space. This way, there would be no confusion as to who is supposed to park where and/or who is supposed to be parking in that area at all.
However, while all of these ideas seem like they may work, the end result would still be up in the air. After all, you have to have someone who is going to enforce these rules. For instance, what if someone were to come back from work and find that someone has parked in their parking space. If it is outside of the hours of 9-5, what kind of a response could you expect? Would there be roaming security that would handle the matter? How would it be resolved? These are all things that would need to be taken into consideration prior to implementing any sort of a parking procedure.
