Is It Normal for Insurance Company to Inspect Your Car if You Want Collision Coverage?

I am thinking about adding collision to my car because my last car was totalled in an accident and had no collision coverage.

But my insurance company who I have been with for many years are threatening to inspect my car if I get collision???? IS this normal? Or are they just trying to discourage me from getting it?

The coverage will add about $300 to my premium and my car is worth about $5000 (estimate based on similar car prices).

Suggestion:

Perfectly normal.

They are not trying to discourage you from getting collision. They just want to make sure your car does not have damage before they bind collision coverage.

There are dishonest people out there who do not have collision – wreck their car and then try to add collision after the fact. By inspecting the car prior to binding collision coverage on the car, the insurance company reduces this type of fraud.
