Is It Necessary to Give the Battery a Full Charge When Storing the Car?

I am about to have a long travel so I have to store my car, but I don’t know if the car battery needs a full charge.

Suggestion:

Bad info. Pull the negative cable only. As for fuel going bad: if it's over a couple of months, just add some fuel preservative to the tank and run it for a few minutes to get it circulated. It's sold at Auto Zone for lawnmowers and RVs. The cooling system will not rust if you use antifreeze (you better!) Tires are OK on the ground. RV owners use wheel protectors to keep the sunshine UV rays from deteriorating the rubber.

no.. if the trip is less than a year

If your going to be storing your car for about 2 or 3 months, I suggest disconnecting the battery, both terminals. If your going to store it 4 or more months, I suggest that you dont store it with any fuel in the tank, drain the coolant compleately from the block and radiator, remove battery from the car, and put the car up on jack stands tires off the ground. Fuel will go bad if stored over 3 or 4 month period, cooling system will start to rust up the block and radaitor after sitting 4 months, battery if not used will go flat in same time period, and tires will develop flat spots if left in one spot long enough.

I own a classic car that i store away at each winter. Here is some simple things to do. before you put the car away go to the gas STATION for fresh fuel and add a fuel stabilizer to the tank, drive the car for 15 minutes to get the stabilizer in the fuel system, let some air out of your tires so you dont get any flat spots on the bottom of the tires during storage. Use a trickle battery charger to keep the battery fresh after the long winter. Check the anti freeze coolant to be sure it is still strong enough to withstand the cold weather without freezing up inside the engine block, if weak, drain and refill with fresh coolant, then cover the car and your good until the spring.
good luck…………
