In Desperate Need of Car Advice?

I'm 17 years old, my parents got me a 2001 ford focus from a nearby dealer called Cars R Us they said that it had been inspected by a mechanic and it was up to date on all of the checkups.. despite the minor small problems it already had (broken handles, no stereo, scratches and dings etc) it sounded nice and quiet and i really loved the color anyway we managed to get the price down to 2950 plus lisence and tax so about 3400 total. I didn't have my lisence when we first purchased the car ( about 2 months ago) so i didn't drive it around lot to see what the problem was. But a couple weeks after we bought it it all started. The problem usually starts with all the electric turning off (including guages, lights, stereo) then sometimes at the same time the engine will jump like the car is restarting. First we took it back and the dealer kept it for 2 weeks and claimed to have fixed the problem with the computer. Supposidly the computer had been spitting out random codes. They restarted the computer and gave it back to us. The next week it did the same thing and we figured the dealer wasnt going to do anything for us so we decided to take it to the ford.($1028.00) (I have paper work from every repair made) They discovered a broken collant hose that was about to burst, and some other minor problems. Gave it back to us another week later and the engine started to shake and be really loud so we took it to goodyear and they discovered a broken cylinder in the car. ($628) and again with the electric when we took it back to ford another 200 or so.. we've also put in a new stereo ($230) and taken it to jiffy lube ($244) We've taken it into the ford a total of 3 times and they are stumped. sometimes the car doesn't act up at all. For now i have it and its still acting up.

I'm so stuck in a rut my parents don't want to deal with this anymore so i'm on my own. I've thought about trading it but don't want to lose more then 2k of what we put into the vehicle, and i also would like to keep the stereo.. is it possible to fix? or could i get a working car for one that barely does?
I dont know a lot of people who know about cars so any advice would be deeply appreciated.

Suggestion:

Hind sight is 20/20. Never take a sellers word that a car is in good condition. Pay a qualified mechanic to check the car before you buy. Not trying to make you feel bad, but if we don't learn from our mistakes, we are bound to repeat them.

Now, as to the situation you have.

Obviously you have had the wrong people working on your car. It is now up to you to find an answer as to what is wrong with the car.

It is an electric issue. The problem symptoms you described are all electrical circuits cutting off and the car acting as if it were restarting.

I would first suspect a bad ground. Something is interrupting the main flow of electricity to all the circuits. Has the battery been tested? A faulty battery or battery connections would be the first place to start checking. If you are not mechanically inclined, take it to a parts store …most of them will do this for you free of charge.

If that doesn't fix the problem, you will need to find someone that specializes in electric systems. Many mechanics don't know what they are doing when it comes to electrical issues…they just start throwing parts (your money) at the problem in hopes of getting lucky. Make sure the person working on your car knows how to properly diagnose electrical issues.

Good luck
