Can I Fuel My Car with Engine Running?

this morning my car battery wouldnt start, i had to jump my car, had it jumped, works fine, made it to work, tried turning my car on, no luck.

Im going to have my car jumped when i leave to go buy a new battery, but the closest battery center is miles away and i need gas!

Is it okay if i make a stop to the gas station after i get my car jumped and fuel my tank while the car is still running?

Theres an electrician here at my work and he says hes done it several times, i have a toyota, and he says hes rarely heard of any problems with fueling a car wit the a modern japanese car. He says theyre mainly afraid of sparks causing the pump to light up on fire, but he says that is very rare in newer cars.

he also says its more hazardous for those people smoking next to pumps then to leave an engine on.

Suggestion:

Yes smoking is extremely dangerous while fueling a car, but so is fueling while the car is running. That's why there is a big warning sign at all gas stations that say " YOU MUST SHUT OFF ENGINE WHILE FUELING" . Does it mean you will blow up? There is a very good possibility you could cause a fire.
