Are Hybrid Cars Worth It?

A car dealer told me that hybrid cars only save you money if you keep them for a very long time or if you drive an awfully lot. Basically, he was saying that it will take a long time to recover any money in gas savings versus the extra cost of a hybrid car.

Any truth to this? I was thinking about a hybrid Ford Escape but the question is general as well for any hybrid.

Suggestion:

Yes, they are worth it they save gas and help keep the air cleaner you dont see all of that exhaust coming out of a hybrid car than u would a regular car
