How do new car dealers pay their sales people? (salary or just commission)
How much do you make off the sale of a new or used car?
How many cars would I expect to sell the first year?
What are the ups and downs of selling cars?
Should I seek out a used car super center over a new car dealership?
How much money would a first year salesperson expect to make?
Any specific dealership (brand) should I seek out for an application?
Thanks! Any advise would be great..
I sell cars for a living but don't want to answer all these questions.
Car salespeople are paid straight commission. You might get a draw against commission but will have to pay that back the next month. Go into draw more than a couple months and they'll fire you.
Find a dealer who will pay you during training. At least you'll make an hourly rate for a few weeks.
The average car salesperson makes $35-40k a year. I'm average. You may not be.
Forget about brands and find a store where you'll fit in. Some mgmt teams grind their sales force hard. Some are high pressure. Others are more team focused and collaborative. Get a feel for the culture at the store. Is everyone smiling? Does everyone looks like they're on edge? Does the place feel vibrant and positive or is it a tomb filled with the walking dead?
You can make $100K a year easily, or you can really struggle. Ups and Downs are part of the car business. You'll work mega long hours, come in on your day off, work every weekend especially Saturdays, and gain weight unless you are very careful of what you eat. It can be a heartless, brutal job or it can be fun. Much of that is up to you.
Good luck.

How do new car dealers pay their sales people? (salary or just commission) Straight commission. What would be the incentive to sell anything if you got a salary?
How much do you make off the sale of a new or used car? Anywhere from 100.00 to 1200.00 (my best commission ever). Too hard to say…nationwide average last time I checked…New car: 200.00. Used car: 300.00
How many cars would I expect to sell the first year? Anywhere from none to 100 or so…How can any of us tell you how YOU will do?? I don't give a sh!t if you've sold other stuff before, car sales is unlike any other business. Just because you were successful selling…oh let's say suits…doesn't mean you would do well at selling cars…It's an entire different ball game.
What are the ups and downs of selling cars? Ups and downs?? Really?? THAT is your question?? Ups: Good money Downs: Sh!tty economy and NO MONEY!
Should I seek out a used car super center over a new car dealership? Yes
How much money would a first year salesperson expect to make? Anywhere from minimum wage to 100K
Any specific dealership (brand) should I seek out for an application? That's up to you. What make do you believe in (what make do YOU think is reliable?)
Your questions are too vague. NO ONE can tell you how YOU would do! NO ONE!
Good luck, but I would think twice about it if I were you, just by your questions I can tell you have no clue about car sales.
